We are so excited to have Nelson-based artist Abby Wilson come host a workshop in acrylic plein air (outside) painting for us! It is likely that you have come across Abby’s eye-catching work at some point; bright, bold acrylic landscapes. Abby is also the artist of the famous Kootenay Colouring Book. Forming a tradition, we are very pleased to return to the Harris Ranch with this outdoor workshop, which offers a scenery that tickles your imagination.
At the start of this painting excursion we go for a walk together over the lands of the Harris Ranch and explore its rich history in the Silverton area. Inspiration is no problem when you find yourself walking through rolling meadows, surrounded by breathtaking views of the Slocan Lake and the Valhalla Range. You will find water features, historical barns and cottages including the Japanese school house featured in “Snow falling on Cedars”. After this first hour, there are four more hours in which Abby Wilson will teach you her ways of capturing the landscape in acrylic paints. We'll spend the first half of painting time working on exercises and quick studies, and then the second half will be focused painting with time to share at the end. You can expect to come home with a beautiful piece of art! Lunch is at your own leisure, accommodating to everyone’s own painting process.
