The Slocan Lake Arts Center opens their studio doors to everyone that wants to come make their own art. Gather, create, explore! Every week has a different local artist as a host, each with their own specialties. During the open studio there are no instructions, but the host is available to you for tips and tricks!

About your host
Louise Ducharme, New Denver BC
Specialties: Mixed Media, Encaustics, Oil and Cold Wax, and also loves collage and acrylics!
Louise was born in Bonnyville, Alberta. After high school, she moved to Quebec City and spent many years enjoying her native French culture, travelling to many Asian countries and completed a BA in English Literature at University Laval. As of July 2011, Louise is a permanent resident of New Denver and she is truly pleased to have finally arrived in the Kootenays. She left a 22 year teaching profession to allow herself to delve into her long awaited artistic goals. In preparation, she completed the Visual Arts Program at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and a SFU Graduate Diploma in Fine Arts Education. From 2009-2011, she was the Visual Arts Teacher for Grades 8-12 at Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary School in Maple Ridge, BC. In this capacity, she also worked closely with the Maple Ridge Art Gallery to create student art kits and exhibits for SD42.
For 8 years, she was on the board of directors for the Hidden Garden Gallery in New Denver, BC. She has had many BC exhibitions at The Hidden Garden Gallery in New Denver, Studio Connexion in Nakusp, various outlets in Kelowna, Revelstoke and Nelson. Her work has found homes both nationally and internationally.
Louise is continuously exploring mediums and works in mixed media, cold wax and oils, acrylics, pastels, and encaustics. Louise works full-time at her home studio in New Denver, BC
