About your host
Petra Hekkenberg, New Denver BC
Specialties: Pen Illustrations and Photography
Petra Hekkenberg grew up in the Netherlands, where she graduated with two bachelor’s degrees in Product and Public Space Design. In 2015 she first came to Canada, fell in love with the Slocan Valley and became a permanent resident in 2019. She currently works locally as a freelance designer & artist, part-time at Kokanee Glacier Cabin as a hut keeper and park operator, and part-time as a cycling trip leader in Europe for Backroads. In 2021 she published her fully illustrated journal about Kokanee Glacier Park, now for sale in local stores, held two visual art shows, and she has successfully submitted 3 short films to the North Valley Mountain Film Festival over the last years.
As you can tell, she has a full schedule everything combined, but for her it is a perfect mix of nature, people and creativity! Petra is based out of the small community New Denver, BC, which serves as her biggest inspiration ever since she first set foot there.
