About Röni Jurgensen

I was born in Senneterre, Quebec and have resided in many places across Canada with my Air force family. After moving to Calgary, Alberta in 1979, I worked with the City of Calgary until entering the 4 year Visual Communications course at the Alberta College of Art and Design from 1981 – 1985. Upon completion of my studies there, I started working as an illustrator, art director and designer with various design companies and advertising agencies in the city.

In 1989, I began freelancing and worked with various direct clients and design companies until moving to the Slocan Valley in 2014. I continue working here as a designer, art director, artist and volunteer on the board of the Hidden Garden Gallery in New Denver. I have painted and practiced sculpture and various other mediums since the early years of my life.

I thrive on collaborating with others and creating visual solutions that engage the viewer. I have taught classes in design, painting and run life drawing programs during the winter months with our local artists here in BC.

For more examples of my paintings and sculpture, please visit my website www.ronijurgensen.com and Instagram.

Bird Mobile Workshop

with Röni Jurgensen

The Bird Mobile making workshop will go for around two to three hours. The Birds are constructed with origami folded shapes created from silver metal screening mounted on mobile structures made from ribar tie wire and connected with fishing swivels to help enable the movement of the birds.

After the success of her Murmuration installation at The Hidden Gallery in New Denver of Summer 2022, local artist Röni Jurgensen is going to guide us how to make our very own screen mesh origami bird mobile sculptures.
